Executive Summary

Sonya Balduzzi is a Scientific Advisor at Gardiner Roberts, providing scientific and technical expertise to the Intellectual Property Group on matters involving pharmaceutical patent litigation under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, and preparation of validity and infringement opinions.

Sonya obtained a PhD in organic chemistry with a focus on developing stereoselective methodology for the synthesis of small molecules. She completed postdoctoral research in the area of synthetic organometallic chemistry, as well as postdoctoral research in the area of asymmetric catalysis of organic reactions. Sonya has authored several papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, reporting novel synthetic processes.

Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts, Sonya worked in the Intellectual Property Group of an international pharmaceutical company, providing freedom to operate assessments of API synthetic routes and drug formulations. She also worked in the Research and Development Group of a generic drug manufacturer, developing analytical methods to analyze drug substances and drug products.
