Jamal is an Associate at Gardiner Roberts LLP practicing with the firm’s litigation group. He is a bold and trusted advocate whose experience is significantly related to transportation, international trade, and insurance law.

He routinely acts for both domestic and international clients across the global supply chain – including shippers, freight forwarders, freight brokers, trucking companies, warehousemen, and consignees, as well as insurers – and safeguards their interests in respect of litigation, regulatory, and commercial matters. He takes a particular interest in respect of resolving multimodal disputes involving air carriers, rail carriers, and ocean carriers.

Jamal maintains a broad practice which includes cross-border and domestic litigation in respect of cargo claims, product liability, insurance, and related casualty claims, as well as international trade and customs disputes concerning the sale of goods.

He further maintains a growing personal and professional interest in privacy and cybersecurity law and enjoys advising clients on both mitigation and response strategies as they navigate increasingly digitized environments.

Jamal is also a strategic advisor in respect of commercial transactions, whose approach is centered on the principles of risk assessment and mitigation.

Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts LLP, Jamal worked for a prominent insurance firm, where he practiced in the areas of civil litigation with a focus on personal injury, as well as trip and falls, tavern liability, product liability, assault cases, and subrogated claims. He maintains this practice and represents a variety of clients and insurers across the transportation, aviation, and marine sectors on complex maritime accidents, commercial vehicle and vessel collisions, and other transportation-related incidents.

He has successfully represented his clients at various levels of courts and administrative tribunals across Canada including the Federal Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, Licence Appeal Tribunal, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and Small Claims Court, as well as before numerous private arbitration panels.

Jamal also takes an interest in legal research and writing whose works have been published in a number of publications, including Truck News, the Toronto Law Journal and Mondaq Canada Publications.

Jamal graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law in 2019. He was awarded the Rick Weiler Prize for Effective Lawyer-Client Relations and Teamwork in Mediation. He also holds an Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Western Ontario.
